The Towering Inferno. It’s pretty much The Poseidon Adventure in a tower instead of a ship. Fire instead of water. And what a star-studded cast: Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Fred Astaire, Faye Dunaway, Richard Chamberlain, OJ Simpson, Robert Vaughn, Robert Wagner, William Holden and Mike Lookinland. (Yes - that’s right. Bobby Brady was in the Towering Inferno!)

A couple thoughts about Paris and the Olympics
The last few days, I’ve been watching the men’s and women’s gymnastics in awe. It doesn’t matter the country, I get nervous for them. Flipping, jumping, spinning, flying, twirling, etc. Rings, floor, uneven bars, that horsey thing, the beam, etc. And if you’re like me, you’re thinking, “I wonder how Al would do with all that?” Admit it - it’s true. You can deny it but I know right now you’re picturing him in his tights spinning on the floor, walking the beam, twirling around that horse thing. Yep - it’s in your head now and it just won’t go away. HA - gotcha Managers! Try to sleep tonight with that vision!
Ashley has been sending pictures and video clips of the Olympics as well as the sights of Paris. She recently spent a chunk of a couple days exploring Notre Dame (still under reconstruction) and the Louvre. Very nice but I’m thinking if Dave was there, he could have toured the entire city in about 15 minutes.
Yogi’s Golf Outoing
Tore it up at Golf Club of Dublin. Such a nice course. Shame we abused it.
Your American men’s team.
FGL 2024 Coming to an End
Not much changed at the 3M. Kevin picked up a point over Team Jaustin as their new guy Von Rooyen seems to be trying to von ruin the season. He missed the cut. Not even close. Nearly last place!
Jim grabbed a point and tied BIg J for a 5th place tie. I know - that’s not much drama.
Kind of like how the Super Bowl is two weeks after the last playoff game; the FGL is doing the same thing. Our final tournament is in two weeks. We’ll let the Olympics have the spotlight briefly. And soon we’ll find out who is rested up and ready to play at the Wyndham in NC to determine our 2024 Tommy O Champion
Best Damn Band in the Land at Picnic with Pops
The Lads from Liverpool
Had a lovely night downtown with Manager Monica and the Kids from IT watching this Beatle-band. They’re called Rain and were incredibly impressive.
Team Jaustin scrambles to save the season.
FGL Headquarters got a call today from Julian. He’s only two so it didn’t make much sense. But as best as I can tell, Bryson is gone. He’s busy doing his YouTube shows anyway. In his place will be Erik Van Rooyen. And I don’t think any FGL manager would even recognize him. Should be an interesting closing two weeks.
Quick trip to Pennsylvania.
And on the way back, a detour to Utica, Ohio. Popped into the Ye Olde Mill at the Velvet Ice Cream headquarters. I have no defense when it comes to ice cream.
As for my daughters, I still don’t quite understand what they were doing. I’ve just been told there are now few zombies in this world.
But what about tennis stars?
Wimbledon just recently finished up and I don’t know anyone. Here are the two stars I remember:
Deja vu?
In 2022, Team Laustin rolled into the British Open at the top of the FGL Leaderboard but then, so near the finish line, they fell apart. My guys finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd that week for 42 points while Team Laustin went backwards and lost 2 points. And it kind of happened again this year. Four guys missed the cut for Team Jaustin throwing him backwards 4 points.
Meanwhile, Team Kevin caught fire with Breakfast Souffle’s 2nd Major win in this 2024 FGL Season. He nets 18 points that put him at the top of your FGL leaderboard. He is now 5 points ahead of Team Jaustin with just two minor tournaments left. And if you noticed, when Xavier walked off the course, Milton Bradley was there to congratulate him. Folks, this had nothing to do with the Ryder Cup team. No - Milton was just passing along huge congratulations from their manager Kevn.
The winner of the Major Sidebet kind of surprised me. Dr. Al McGuire MD has had a miserable season. But in Scotland, 5 of his 6 guys made the cut and Pete Rose brought home a second place finish. 20 points and the sidebet win to The Doctor.
Doug - I had to go to Meijer and buy more red crayon for your team. You go to Germany and they all party with clearly too many pints. 5 of your 6 guys had the weekend off. Ouch.
Jon Rahm scored 8 points for Team BTO. At his salary on Draft night, those turned out to be expensive points. Here are the top 20 FGL golfers based on their salary that night and how many points they’ve scored for their managers:
Salary Golfer Points Manager
1 $9.28 Scottie Scheffler 112 PAK-Mon
2 $8.39 Rory McIlroy 59 Jaustin
3 $7.29 Jon Rahm 8 BTO
4 $6.08 Viktor Hovland 12 BTO
5 $5.34 Xander Schauffele 90 Kevin
6 $5.22 Wyndham Clark 22 Doug
7 $5.03 Patrick Cantlay 24 Jim
8 $4.12 Max Homa 24 Doctor
9 $4.06 Matt Fitzpatrick 26 Big J
10 $3.99 Brian Harman 23 Jim
11 $3.81 Ludvig Aberg 38 Commish
12 $3.71 Jordan Spieth 8 Big J
13 $3.69 Tommy Fleetwood 27 Jim
14 $3.63 Collin Morikawa 56 Big J
15 $3.61 Keegan Bradley 17 Kevin
16 $3.56 Tyrrell Hatton 10 Kevin
17 $3.52 Tom Kim 23 Doug
18 $3.34 Sam Burns 19 Doctor
19 $3.25 Jason Day 18 Big J
20 $3.24 Sahith Theegala 30 Doug
And now we roll into the 3M Open. Expected to play:
Manager Golfers expected to play
Jaustin Tony Finau
Kevin Milton Bradley, Akshay Bhatia
PAK-Mon Tom Hoge, Andrew Putnam
Commish Cam Davis
Doug Sahith Theegala, Emiliano Brillo Pad, J.T. Poston
Jim Dustin Hoffman
Big J No one. Nope. Not a single guy from your team.
The Doctor George Burns, Kurt Kitayama, Lucas Glover, Pete Rose (maybe)
B.T.O. Sam Ryder Truck, Kevin Streelman
Jazz and Rib Fest
With more emphasis on ribs than jazz. Still just amazes me that each BBQ vendor can be voted the BEST EVER! I really felt like I needed Doug with me. He’d have all those vendors get together and work through their ego issues. But a lovely event anyway.
A wet golfing adventure
Got to play Heritage with Woody and Big J last Wednesday. It all seemed so easy until the storms blew through. Eventually made way for sunshine and blue skies.
Manager moves
Just to keep everyone up to speed. With the beginning of the Scottish Open the other week, Manager Doug also jumped across the pond. He’s still there which may lead one to believe it’s FGL related. Nope - he went to Germany (by mistake). After all, all his guys are in Scotland.
The Kids from IT leave in about a week for Europe as well. They’re going to Paris for two weeks for the Olympics. Kind of odd as I don’t think Ashley qualified for anything.
Manager Big J will be leaving for Scotland in about a month.
And Al spends quite a bit of time in Dublin. Not Ireland but Ohio.
And that concludes our European update.
Breakfast at The Open coming up!
MacIntire wins the Scotish Open. I’m guessing someone picks him up next season.
Jaustin continues to lead the FGL as we roll towards the end, even with Bez withdrawing early. Kevin continues to battle in second. Monica and Paul, you can’t go -3 at the Scotish Open and hope to make up any ground.
I do question Milton Bradley being named Manager for the Ryder Cup. He hasn’t been on any recent teams and has never served as a vice-captain. I find the timing quite suspect. Is this all a distraction as poor Kevin tries to keep his team focused on the Tommy O Award?
Manager Golfers expected to play

Surprise Trip to Cleveland area (Northfield, OH)
You’ve all seen the normal bored face of Mrs. Commissioner when she’s around me. But all that changed Friday night with a surprise trip to the MGM Northfield Park Racino. Suddenly she was like a college kid again as she found out her Michael Stanley Band was playing a 50th anniversary show.
Back to Ohio Theater
Caught the old classic movie “Dial M for Murder” with Grace Kelly.

A trip to Cincy
Watched the Reds take on the devilish Detroit Tigers. They never had a chance. Swept by Detroit. For those of you not paying close attention, Detroit and Cincy are really bad. Meanwhile the “Indians” have the best record in baseball. Afterwards went and spent some time roaming around the Mainstrasse area of Covington. Several good times from years ago with Doug and Dave.
