Run horses!

The new Grandstand is finally finished at Scioto Downs. Very comfortable out there. Mrs. Commissioner and I watched a few races and bet on one horse that she liked with pretty green colors. Even days later, I’m still not sure if that horse has finished the race.

Harbor Hills outing at Buckeye Lake

Gorgeous Saturday out at Buckeye Lake with Big J, The Doctor and a member of Brelley. Papa Boos afterwards.

Nick Taylor - Oh Canada

Since I had no one playing, the Canadian Open was kind of like golf when the FGL season is over. It just doesn’t exist. But I did catch the end of the tournament Sunday as Doug’s Fleetwood Mac fought for the victory. Hitting his shot into the stands on #18 didn’t seem very wise. But he fought on until Nick Taylor sank a long putt from the next zip code to steal the win.

Team Jaustin had 4 guys in the field and they all made the cut. We don’t see that very often.

There is no one in 10th place right now. Kevin and Paul are tied in 9th place for ownership of the basement.

I heard Kiss’ Rock & Roll All Night the other day. I remember really liking that song. But as I thought about it, rock and roll ALL NIGHT! No, I can’t do that. I simply can’t. And party every day. Every day? I mean - every single day? Forget it. I’m out. I now hate that song.

Got another Major coming up. Going out to LA. They’ve got Bermuda grass as the rough - which I hear is unusual. Also, a couple par 3’s over 250 yards. That really does not work for me.

Commissioner's Office responds to rumors

News of the merger (they tell me now it is no longer considered a merger but I don’t know what that means.) between the PGA tour, the DP tour (European PGA tour) and LIV lit up the sports world Tuesday. How will this inconvenient marriage work next year? More team-type tournaments similar to New Orleans? Perhaps a more international schedule? So many questions. But just as those questions and concerns began to roll in, much larger rumors began to spread throughout the globe. I guess it’s just natural to wonder “what’s next”? I can assure all FGL managers that The FGL is not merging with anyone. Theories were rampant that the FGL might join forces with Fox Sports or possibly ESPN or TVLand. Nope - we’re not doing that. Same FGL as you’ve always known!

Third FGL Major behind us

McCarthy? Isn’t that the guy that was working with Biden on the budget last week? Now he’s playing in the Memorial. His putting was amazing. Forced some extra innings with Viktor Hovland.

Viktor couldn’t even get his sunscreen on right Wednesday and somehow he hung on to win. Never three putted throughout the entire tournament. If only some other FGL golfers could have done that. Anyway, the victory was enough to bring Dr. McGuire the sidebet victory and propel him into second place on your FGL Leaderboard.

Big J did not punch a knock-out blow yet this season as 3 of his 5 guys missed the cut. But he picked up a few points to keep his huge lead.

Sorry Dave but Max Homa didn’t play because his sister was getting married.

And Kevin - you only had 2 guys playing. Brian Harman missed the cut and Collin Morikawa gave up on Sunday. Will he be back on the course for the US Open?

And with Kevin scoring negative points, Paul leaps out of the basement. Yes, it’s true. I did the math 4 times!

A few of us will be heading to Canada for their national championship. I’m giving my guys the week off.

Observations from the Memorial tournament

As part of my duties as FGL Commissioner, I feel obligated to provide you with my own strange observations out at Muirfield Village the day before the tournament.

Biggest crowds weren’t for any pro but rather an amateur. Peyton Manning.

At the 10th green, I saw 2 amateurs both hit really good flop shots from far right of this picture. Both just landed o the green. I’d be deligthed! And yet, both rolled across the green and down the hill. That would kind of suck.

I caught up with Seamus Powers after one of his tee shots. He simply asked, “Where’s Paul?” I told him probably in a Speedo on the Waikiki Beach. He just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.

This is Cameron Young’s butt.

View of the 14th green from a suite above

16th green

Got up close to Victor Hovland. I’m not sure Al but your guy looked a little scared to me. Not sure if he’ll play the weekend.

Interesting view. Looking up the 18th fairway to the elevated green.

Maybe Matsuyama woke up late. Dave - he was doing a lot of weird stretches; hope he’s not hurt.

Colonial brings it all together for Monica

Watching videos of Annika playing the Colonial 20 years ago and now realizing that she’s BFF with Monica after last week’s TopGolf gathering, it just makes sense that Team Monica would have a good tournament. It went into extra innings, but Grillo came out with the victory.

Schenk came in 2nd place. No relation to Team Jaustin Schenk.

But there is other news with Team Jaustin. Julian has really taken over this team and has just recently announced they are moving their franchise. Not with all the drama like when the Browns left Cleveland. But Team Jaustin will be leaving northern Cincinnati (South Lebanon) and relocating to northern Columbus (Lewis Center) within the next 2 or 3 weeks.

The Memorial tournament, our 3rd Major, is up next. Most all FGL golfers are playing except for the LIV guys (and Kevin’s guys) So Koepka can’t get 20 more points for Team Big J. This is the tournament to make your move. And please know that your Commissioner’s office is doing everything possible to jinx our FGL leader.

Team Big J comes through again

His top two picks both needed 8+ foot putts on their 18th holes Friday to make the cut. (Thomas and Speith) Hatton also made the cut on the line. Day was the only one to miss the cut. And then Brooksie wins the PGA Championship. That’s the kind of year you need to win the Tommy O Award. 30 points to Big J and the Major sidebet victory.

Dave has his last three picks miss the cut. And his top three picks could only just finish. Zero points for B.T.O. and he drops into a tie for 3rd place with your Commissioner.

I should have known I was in for a frustrating week when my Tom Kim fell in a muddy creek Thursday. Never a good omen.

A good tournament for Monica and Al as we wrap up our 2nd Major of the year and hit the half way point of this FGL season.

And now a rant that has nothing to do with golf. A flood light in our kitchen burned out. No complaint as they seem to last 15 years. I went to Lowes to grab a new 65 Watt flood light. If only it was that easy. There’s bright white, relaxed white, cool white, soft white, daylight, warm white and a few others. Really? Of course the one I bought doesn’t match the other 5 at home that still work. I say it doesn’t matter to me but it’s eating me up inside!

And finally - welcome back to Team Doug!

FGL mini-meeting

A 2 1/2 hour meeting of select members of the FGL Board took place Tuesday evening at TopGolf. As a special treat, Annika Sorenstam addressed our illustrious group. Of special interest was watching the golf world, led by Annika and her 10 Major championships meet Monica, a pillar within the FGL community. Just watching these two titans meets was one of those amazing moments, kind of like when Paul McCartney met John Lennon, when Abbott met Costello, when Ben met Jerry.

Is it over?

Jason Day wins and Hatton comes in 5th place. So many more points for Team Big J. One of those strange years where his number 1 drafted guy has brought in the fewest points. It’s all going his way and we haven’t even had our second Major yet.

I noticed the Byron Nelson set up the “stadium” look on #17, similar to what Waste Management does on their tournament. Must be a trend. Just makes me wonder if Doug will be doing that for this year’s IDI.

This was the greatest hot dog of my life. It came from Big J at Glenross this week. Debt paid. Makes it taste soooo good!
