Ho hum - Scheffler wins again. US Open up next!

I thought this week would shake up the standings. As usual, I was totally wrong. Nothing changed. The team of Paul & Monica won the Memorial tournament with 24 points. But team Jaustin stayed right behind with 22 points. Kevin picked up 18 points as those three franchises are clearly far ahead of the rest of the FGL.

B.T.O. - zero points at a Major. Crazy strategy you have!

Interesting that the points for the week closely mirror everyone’s place on the FGL leaderboard.

US Open coming up next. At Pinehurst where 25 years ago Payne Stewart won. Easy to forget about Payne; the original Fancy Pants. Dave had him that year.

Also 25 years ago this month, Big J and won the coveted Brewseum Cup over that pestering relentless team of Doug and Al.

Coverage for the US Open will mostly be on NBC with USA doing some early coverage. And just to add a twist, Peacock does a little Thursday and Friday coverage.

Out at the Memorial

I was out at the tournament today (Wednesday) for a practice round and Pro/Am. Saw some kid run out to get Tom Kim’s autograph. And he probably had no idea who Tom was!

Biggest crowds weren’t around the pros but the amateurs. Peyton Manning had a huge following. But also did Amanda Balionis of Golf Channel and Michelle Wie.

Took a moment to check in with Wynhdam Hotel practicing his putting. Sorry Doug - but he did not look comforatable.

Caught up with Justin Thomas. I thanked him for coming to the Memorial tournament and started to ask him a few questions. He told me he was not taking any FGL questions and quickly left the tournament grounds.

And special thanks to Woody for the 18th green Pavailion pass. They made a damn good hot dog!

Off to the Memorial and our 3rd Major!

Jaustin and Kevin continue to battle for that second place spot. And both are only a few points behind PAK-Mon. That could all easily change with just a few days in Dublin.

Your Commissioner will be at the Memorial on Wednesday. If there are any players you would like harassed, please just let me know.

In the early years of the FGL, we tried a rule that allowed a PGA player to be on two FGL teams at the same time. It did not go over well. Sometimes you swing and strike out. The Protected Player Provision was two years in discussion before it was rolled out this past February. Initial reaction has not been favorable. Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Rory McIlroy were the only players protected. This rule may only last one year before it’s tossed in the trash.

Great field heading to Dublin to visit with Jack and the FGL

Spent a nice weekend in Canada

If you’ve heard of the infamous Put-in-Bay trip that we’ve waited decades for Al to organize, this was kind of like that. The main difference was that we were on the Canadian side of the Lake. And we spent the weekend with Team Brelley! A great weekend. But all these trips, I think I need a vacation from my vacations.

Wonderful holiday weekend

Your Commissioner had a great birthday weekend with a dinner at Texas Roadhouse, lots of tennis (tho I forgot it required running) Graeter’s ice cream and a surprise dinner with Manager Doug/Maxine and Monica at Yogi’s (along with a cake from the ladies there)

Amazing northern Michigan golf trip

I had a great road trip to Gaylord Michigan thanks to Big J pulling it all together. Six golf courses, so many bad shots and amazing scenery. Joining Big J and myself were my brother Tom, Woody from Delta and his friend Darren.

We almost lost Big J on our second day. This is the scene and it was the wet railroad tie that nearly did him in. The big man went down and went down hard, blooding his face, breaking his glasses and basically just making a mess of himself. Thankfully he was able to pull it all together after a few holes.

We played 108 holes in just 72 hours. On the 107th hole, your Commissioner scored an Eagle on a par 5. My only moment of glory!

Kevin makes major move at Major

Breakfast Souffle finally did it. He shot a 65 to keep ahead of DeChambeau and win by one stroke. (Sorry Jaustin) Kevin moves into 3rd place on your FGL leaderboard and wins the Major Sidebet pool.

Team Jaustin also had a good week and sneaks closer to that coveted first place spot.

Doug ….. -2 for the week? That’s terrible. But then again, I scored 0 points. Not a good tournament for a few of us.

Jim and Doctor are now tied for 7th place - for whatever that’s worth.

UNBELIEVABLE

Scottie gets his stretches done in a Louisville jail; arrives to the course about an hour before tee time and then shoots one of the best rounds of the day with a 66. How is that possible? A possible omen on how the rest of this season is going to go for Team PAK-Mon? On the other extreme, if the barometric pressure is slightly off, The Doctor may not make his round of golf. Crazy stuff.

Possible ethics violation being investigated on Team PAK-Mon

Shocking news came out of Kentucky as round 2 was about to begin on Friday. Oh sure - it’d be easy to make some Kentucky jokes now. But Manager Big J lives there so we’lll leave that alone. But other reports are circulating on the internet, radio and TV, newspapers, town criers, telegraphs, etc. It would appear that team PAK-Mon has been harboring a felon. SHAME! Perhaps a 50 point team reduction would be in order? (Of course that would still leave them ahead of half the FGL teams!). But clearly more investigative work must take place. Maybe even a happy hour to talk over the ramifications. Stay tuned.

Wednesday concert night

Went to the Schottenstein Center and saw Cheap Trick and Heart. Ran into a few Shadowbox kids there as well. A very good time. I had never seen Cheap Trick before and it made me want to go watch Fast Times at Ridgemont High again. Heart was still amazing. Those ladies are both in the early 70’s. Most older bands can’t hit their high notes or have the crowd sing along for most of the songs. Not so with Heart. They still sounded the same. But they kept me out until 11:00. That just seemed very late!

9 points

That seemed to be the most common team point score at the Wells Fargo. With most everyone playing this signature event and there being no cut, everyone picked up points. Team Jaustin picked up 14 points with help from Rory’s win which moves him into 2nd place. No other changes in the standings other than everyone moved forward and with Monica’s squad only scoring 4 points, everyone gained just a little ground.

We’re off to the PGA Championship next in Kentucky. Will Justin Thomas find his old hometown magic and pull out a big win. No. He will not. But it’s a nice story. Your Commissioner has decided to pick up a couple tossed away FGL golfers for this week. I’m going to try Books Koepka and Byeong Hun An for a week and see how I like them. Nick Taylor and Shane Lowry have been dismissed though there’s always the possibility of future negotiations.

Congrats to Manager Austin

In his spare time when he’s not managing the affairs of Team Jaustin, Manager Austin has a side job with The Hillman Company. Recently Austin got promoted to Senior Manager of Solutions Design Analytics. Now I don’t know what any of that means, but I’m sure it’s pretty important.

Mother's Day party included several FGL managers

Had a great time with Managers Doctor, Monica, Jaustin and Doug for lots of food and too much ice cream. Even had Woody and my cousin show up. And nothing got broke - at least that I’ve noticed so far.

Tina

Went to the Ohio Theater Tuesday night to see the Tina Turner musical. It was very good though certainly not anything like a concert. I don’t ever remember sitting in Merrill Tower on campus listening to Tina music. And I really didn’t know much about her story so Tuesday night’s show was a bit surprising. Very dark and disturbing. Ike was certainly a jerk. Again - a very good show in its own weird way.
